Over the years this old lady has bought plenty of crocs, flops, sandals, and sneakers, first for her children and now for her grandchildren. It’s summertime, summertime, summertime – beach time, play time, summer rec time – here at the Jersey shore.

I hate footwear; I love barefootin’. In the house, in the car, wherever… that’s the way my grand ones are too. So when I learned about new Phibians built for land and sea, I decided these Stride Rite shoes were a definite must try.

The Made2Play Phibian Sneaker Sandal features lightweight outsoles that grip like a sneaker and breathable, quick-dry, machine washable uppers with a secure bungee closure for sneaker-like fit. This versatile shoe can be worn all season. The shoes can be hosed off or washed in the machine. They are designed to be quick drying in order to prevent sogginess and odor.

The all-new Made2Play Phibian Slide slips on and has an adjustable closure. Like the Sneaker Sandal, the Slide features lightweight outsoles that grip like a sneaker and breathable, quick-dry, machine washable uppers. The shoes can be hosed off or washed in the machine and are designed to be quick drying in order to prevent sogginess and odor.

But how do Phibians actually perform? Time for five-year-old Alexander to field test a pair – dry, wet, on the lawn, and on asphalt. Problem was Alexander couldn’t decide whether he wanted to wear sneakers or slides. So I jokingly said, “Wear one of each,” and he did. Boy, what would he have done had he also had a pair of also available Phibian mids!

First thoughts:

These casual shoes (average SMRP $40) are made for little kids and big kids alike. With or without socks, they look great from first wear when school let out and even now that vacation is winding down. Style, performance and durability coupled with comfort, breathability and versatility makes them worth every extra cent more than mass merchandise retailers cheap shoes displays.

Second thoughts:

Good feet demand good shoes. Active boys and girls need Made2Play Phibians. It’s footwear that is suitable for athletics but machine washable, quick drying, easy on (and off). Why? Phibian slip resistant soles are them perfect for running, jumping, climbing.

Only complaint:

Phibians only come in whole sizes, no half or wides.

Final thoughts:

Stride Rite, a brand built for childhood since 1919, has a new winner. Several days ago my two youngest grandsons – usually Shoeless Joes since nobody wants to wear shoes that hurt, smell, or break – got together. I heard Alexander tell Trenton say, “Just go ask Grandma.” I had a big laugh when I discovered that Alexander was telling his cousin I would get them for him too. Hm, he was right. Grammy is a soft touch. I ordered Trenton a couple of pair of Phibians as soon as I got back home.
